Hurricane Ike Disaster
Relief
On Saturday, September 13, 2008 a team of 5 men (Tom
Garber, Kerry Grasser, Bill Mericle, Don Ames, & Gene
Haines) departed for Gonzales, Louisiana approx. 25
miles southeast of Baton Rouge. I-TEC partnered with
the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief chainsaw team for
one day while waiting for Hurricane Ike to exit the
Texas area.
Update from TX, 9/28/08
Now that we have
relocated to Galveston, Texas, we are working with both
the Southern
Baptist Disaster Relief Organization and the Evangelical
Free Church of America Crisis Response Ministry.
We are not limited to
these organizations and if you are aware of needs within
the Christian community here in Texas or the Gulf Coast,
please contact me at
tom.garber@itec.org
or Paul Kinley at
paul.kinley@itec.org
Office phone 570-433-0777.
This is now our 13th
day in TX (Sept. 28th) and God continues to
provide opportunities to place generators in Churches
and Church affiliated relief centers. (Seven total
installations to date.)
Paul Kinley arrived
9/26 and most of our time has been helping to demo the
interior of the Galveston Bible Church. Today, (Sun
Sept. 28) we were able to worship in the Galveston Bible
Church with the benefit of our “quiet” 25kw diesel
generator that has been powering the church for most of
the week. This generator has provided the necessary
power to operate all of the cleaning equipment, air
handling equipment, (extremely important with the
increase of mold and mildew), and volunteer RV’s located
on the street outside of the church. It was a great
time of singing and fellowship with both volunteers from
around the US and local residents struggling with the
clean up process. We were all reminded that God
is good, ALL the time.
As you can see, we
need prayer for endurance, safety in many unusual
conditions, and
opportunities to be a witness for Christ. May
Christ be honored in everything we do and as we seek to
help those who are hurting.
Serving Together,
Tom (for the I-TEC
team)
